MGM Resorts International Pledges $1 Million To Support Employees

Mar 27, 2020

Everyone is doing what they can to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus. People are staying home, hotels are being altogether re-purposed, and restaurants have extended service deliveries and boosted staff demand as a result. These stories build confidence for our industry amid the growing number of confirmed cases. Indeed, everyone is doing their part to keep the economy healthy while staying safe. Today we highlight one such business that is going above and beyond.

MGM Resorts International is making a significant commitment to its team members who are directly affected by the coronavirus pandemic by pledging $1 million into an emergency fund. The emergency fund will provide relief for staff who are impacted by the pandemic and are experiencing financial hardships as a result. MGM Resorts announced last week that it would close their Las Vegas properties until further notice. Despite the unquestionable economic downturn, MGM's pledge is expected to provide financial support for full-time employees and on-call employees, whether or not they are facing layoff, separation, or furlough.

"In battling the current global crisis, at MGM Resorts we intend to embrace humanity, exemplify inclusion and exhibit compassion. Our commitment to our employees and the communities in which we operate, conduct business and serve our customers, remains steadfast," said Jyoti Chopra, Senior Vice President, Chief Diversity & Sustainability Officer for MGM Resorts International.

Furthermore, the company has donated more than 300,000 pounds of food to Three Square, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide food to those who are in need across Southern Nevada.
